LENT 2016 Day 14 - Purity of Heart

I never thought of Purity of Heart starting with our eye sight.  Eye sight is one of the many gifts/things that I thank God for each day. I don't know what it's like to be blind and I think sometimes it may be easier to have sight and then lose it than it would be to never see. Two completely different perspectives. If you're never seen the color blue, then describing what the oceans of Bali look like to a blind man does no good. Once in high school we did an activity with a partner where you had to blind fold the other person and tell them where to walk to get to a specific destination. They only had to trust the other person to be next to them and guide them down the right path. Same really goes for us with God, even though we can see things, we can't see the true path that lies before us, so we trust that God is guiding us down the right one.

As noted today, sight is more than just seeing. God wants us to choose to look at things that are pleasing to Him. We have to maintain custody of our eyes and choose to look at things that will honor God.  We have to exercise "self-control to not look at the things that don't help us become the best-version-of-ourselves.

Images are powerful, so we must be mindful of what we look at.

POINT TO PONDER:
Avert your eyes from anything that can pollute our soul.

VERSE TO LIVE:
"The eye is the lamp of the body. So if your eye is sound your whole body will be full of light."  Matthew 6:22

QUESTION TO CONSIDER: If you learn to control what you look at, how deep will the peace be within in?

Well if we look at only things that are pleasing to God and things that we can thank God for then we'll sort of naturally fall into those things that will bring us peace in our daily life. This is an interesting way to "look" at honoring God. It's not just about praying, or thinking healthy thoughts, praising vocally but start with our eyes...with our sight.  "Be careful little eyes what you see."

PRAYER:
Jesus, purify my heart, purify my mind, purify my body and purity my soul.

ON A SIDE NOTE: just to go back to purity of heart, last night I told Claire to say her prayers.  She said "Pray with me Mom."  What greater words can come out of the mouth of a child. I love when she hugs me and tells me she loves me, but I seriously believe that last night I heard one of the most wonderful things come out of her mouth. My heart was so happy that I can't even explain it with words. She is the truest joy in my life and my GREATEST God given gift.

Thank you Lord for the blessing that you have bestowed upon me and my family. Please continue to be with me and guide me so that I can teach Claire your ways and teach her to know you and trust you with all of her heart. Thank you for blessing me and challenging me withe gift and job of being her mother. Thanks also for the gifts of my talents and my senses as well as my health.  Bless Dad, Maw-Maw, Julie, Steve Shehane and all those who are recovering and those who are suffering from illnesses. I am so grateful. Let them know that they can call on you for healing. Bless those who are struggling with any turmoil and let them know that  AMEN.
