Forgiveness is a virtue. I say it to myself all of the time. The truth of the matter is that as I was reading todays devotion I was thinking the same thing. I don't have anyone to forgive. When we forgive , we share the love of God with others and rid ourselves of dangerous poisons that can prevent us from growing spiritually. Matthew Kelley is talking about forgiving everyone: the person who cut us off on the highway, the friend from who always makes your blood boil, the co-worker who doesn't do his share of the work but still gets the credit, your cousin who just doesn't live up to the family values. There is (always) someone in our lives who needs forgiveness, but an you do it? Can you be like Jesus to them? I love how his last sentence today says that our willingness to give and forgive often reveals the depth, or limitations, of our Christianity.
POINT TO PONDER:
Everybody needs to forgive somebody.
I'm sure as soon as I get into the car today I'll need to forgive someone.
VERSE TO LIVE: "If you forgive others their trespasses, your heavenly father will also forgive you." Matthew 6:14
QUESTION TO CONSIDER:
How seriously do you take Jesus' invitation to forgive?
It's so much easier said than done. I think forgiveness like our faith journey is a work in progress.
PRAYER: Jesus, you forgive me even though you know I am going to sin again. Teach e to be that generous with my forgiveness.
