Before I dive into rediscovering Jesus this morning (February 19th, 2016) I want to share that I found a book this week (it was sitting on my shelf the whole time I was searching for it). It's called the Bible Promise Book and it's a little book that lists Bible verses pertaining to anything and everything - a quick reference if you will (pre cell phones). When I was going through a really tough time emotionally and physically and I guess mentally too and I was putting all my energy towards God and prayer I searched for it because I knew there was a page for Trust. Nicki Lirette Boudreaux was my confirmation sponsor. Her note was signed Jan. 14, 1995 (21 years ago - WOW). She gave me the book and someone had posted a picture of it on facecbook a while back and I recognized the text, not the words/scripture as much as the style of the book. I should have known and remembered that the book of Psalms had TRUST written all over it. Anyway, I know I was rambling, which I do a lot, but I had to note that I found that book yesterday and I"m excited because Claire picked it up and said "Mom, what's this little prayer book?" Her little mind amazes me.
Today we'll find out if she's a big sister or not. EEEEKKKKK.
So the 40 words. I bet if you ask a Christian anywhere what are the most important 40 words we must know we all could recite the below.
"'You shall love the Lord your God with all your heard, with all your soul, and with all your mind.' This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: 'You shall love your neighbor as yourself.'" Matthew 22:39
How often do we really think about those words though? Not often, in fact I should probably start teaching that to Claire. So simple and powerful and true. What we are reflecting on today is the ability to love our selves. As Matthew Kelly states - This self-love can co-exist with the true humility.
POINT TO PONDER: God wants to raise you up.
VERSE TO LIVE: "As God's chose ones, holy and beloved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness humility, meekness, and patience." COLOSSIANS 3:12
QUESTION TO CONSIDER: Are you loving yourself the way God loves you?
Yeah, we can try. But that kind of love is indescribable. It's something we should all strive for and is an exciting goal to set for ourselves, b/c it does make things pure and bright.
PRAYER:
Jesus, begin a revolution of love in my heart today. Teach me to love myself as you love me, so that can love all those who cross my path in a way that reminds them that you changed the world.
I have to take a minute to boast here. I truly feel that "I know everybody, everywhere" because I love people so much. I love building and keeping relationships. I'm a people person in the truest sense of the word, but I am human, don't forget that. I love to love people. It's what makes me - me. I know I don't love always like God does, but I definitely try and put my mark on people's lives and hearts.
I always think about my funeral. Morbid - I know, but when I die, what will people be saying about me? How did they meet me? What was the last thing I said to them? Did the mark I left on their heart show God's love? Now - that is something to think about.
